Learners will develop basic first aid techniques such as treating wounds to advanced life support and emergency management. Mode of Delivery Delivery of this course will be trainer-led and delivered face-to-face in a classroom setting, combined with approximately 8 hours of pre-course online learning and 1 day face-to-face training and assessment.

Assessment The assessment requires the learner to complete a written knowledge assessment and demonstrate their skills during practical observation.

Entry requirements SN Training requires learners to bring present photo identification prior to course commencement and confirm their physical capacity to perform CPR & other first aid treatment performed at ground level.
Dress & Equipment Learners should attend the course in comfortable appropriate clothing with closed-in shoes. All equipment and consumables are supplied as part of the course.

Course Content

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid


This course presents the following key skills and knowledge:



  • Recognise and assess an emergency situation.
  • Ensure safety for self, bystanders and casualty.
  • Assess the casualty and recognise the need for first aid response.
  • Seek assistance from emergency services.
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with the ARC guidelines.
  • Provide first aid in accordance with established first aid principles.
  • Display respectful behaviour towards casualty.
  • Obtain consent from casualty where possible.
  • Use available resources and equipment to make the casualty as comfortable as possible.
  • Operate first aid equipment according to manufacturers’ instructions.
  • Monitor the casualty’s condition and respond in accordance with first aid principles.
  • Accurately convey incident details to emergency services.
  • Report details of incidents in line with appropriate workplace or site procedures.
  • Complete applicable workplace or site documentation, including the incident report form.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of information in line with statutory or organisational policies.
  • Recognise the possible psychological impacts on self and other rescuers and seek help when required.
  • Contribute to a review of the first aid response as required.
